OCTOBER 27 – TOLEDO

What a beautiful day in Toledo. First of all, the weather could not have been better. It was high 70’s and sunny. We saw the freezing temperatures in recent days in New Mexico and were thankful that we have a few more days here in Spain.
Toledo has done a great job in preserving it’s history. It’s medieval Arab, Jewish and Christian monuments sprinkled throughout the old city were all on our itinerary today. The  Sinagoga de Santa Maria La Blanca, in the picture above, was built as a synagogue in the 12th century and then converted to a Catholic Church in the early 15th century. We also visited an ancient mosque that was later turned into a Catholic church. Everything is so carefully preserved and it is interesting  to see the different religions’ symbols together in each place.

Everything is so close together here that even visiting 7 monuments and the El Greco museum, we only walked about 5 miles. We are off to Madrid tomorrow for our last few days in Spain.
